The name Apple Watch does this device a disservice — it was not designed to tell time any more than the iPhone was designed to make calls.
First and foremost, the Apple Watch is an extension of your iPhone.
It will allow you to see notifications and access certain apps by glancing down at your wrist.
This may not sound like a big deal. But smart-watch users know that seeing text messages and getting notifications on your wrist is remarkable — and a potential time-saver that can prove priceless.
In no time at all, you will start loving the idea of leaving your iPhone in your pocket or purse and doing simple tasks from your wrist.
(Note: If you don't own an iPhone 5, 5c, 5s, 6 or 6 Plus, do not buy an Apple Watch before upgrading).
And for anyone who has used a fitness-tracking wristband and wondered if anyone was ever going to get it right, the Apple Watch is most definitely the best fitness-tracking wristband to date.
Here's why: Apple has assembled a wealth of apps and a robust ecosystem for sports, health and fitness tracking.
And, like most Apple products, it all just works.
If you need or want a smartwatch as a companion for your iPhone, the Apple Watch is not only the best choice — it is the only choice.
Designers and fashion experts have very strong opinions about the design of the Apple Watch.
While beauty is in the eye of the beholder, the models here are sleek, melding fashion with tech accessory.
But while it is possible that a new, "two watch" look could be all the rage, it is far more likely that Apple will have to win the hearts and minds of fashion-forward consumers (and a place on their wrists) to see another iPhone-sized success story.
Ultimately, as always, consumers will vote with their wallets.
Fortunately for Apple, its best customers spend as if they have deep pockets and just love to scoop up the latest gadget, no matter what it is.
Considering Apple's semi-annual habit of revising and replacing models, should you consider purchasing a fashion accessory that will be technically obsolete within a year or two at most?
It's an important question, and one worth asking.
Only time — and Apple's sales figures — will tell.
