The first words muttered by a pharmaceutical millionaire after she allegedly fed her autistic son a fatal dose of meds at a swanky Manhattan hotel were, "I need a lawyer," an EMT testified Monday at her murder trial.
"I'm OK. I need a lawyer," she told EMT Sultan Hall when he approached her sitting on the floor surrounded by thousands of pills and near her 8-year-old son's corpse, the emergency worker testified.
Assistant District Attorney Matthew Bogdanos asked Hall how many times Jordan made the request for counsel.
"Four or five," he replied. Even in the back of the ambulance, Jordan continued to ask for an attorney, he said.
She'd also told Hall that she had also taken pills and unsuccessfully tried to kill herself.
Jordan allegedly took her son Jude Mirra to the five-star Peninsula Hotel in February of 2010 and forced a lethal concoction of prescription drugs and orange juice down his throat with a syringe.
After years of taking him to doctors and trying to cure him of a devastating disease that had robbed of his speech, she decided to end his misery, prosecutors allege.
Her defense team has argued that she was a devoted mother who committed a "mercy killing" after discovering that the boy's biological father, Emil tzekov, was physically and sexually abusing him.
He's strongly denied the allegations.
The second week of Jordan's murder trial continues Tuesday in Manhattan Supreme Court before Justice Charles Solomon.
