Discovery makes a deal for Mendes’ Neal Street Productions

Discovery Communications is bolstering its ownership of content with a deal for Hollywood director Sam Mendes' Neal Street Productions.

All3Media, jointly owned by Discovery and Liberty Global, said Tuesday it was buying the UK production company known for drama, theater and film productions, including BBC series "Call the Midwife," which has been sold to more than 200 countries, and Showtime's "Penny Dreadful."

Financial terms weren't disclosed.

Mendes, who directed the James Bond film "Skyfall" and the Oscar-winning "American Beauty," put his firm on the block last year.

Discovery and Liberty acquired All3Media, which houses production and distribution companies across Europe, for $930 million in May.
