‘General Hospital’ going live for two episodes next month

ABC war horse "General Hospital" will air two live episodes next month.

The veteran soap, which recently celebrated its 52nd anniversary, will air the shows live from its LA studios on Friday, May 15 and Monday, May 18 — near the end of the all-important May sweeps period.

"Taking such an iconic show as 'General Hospital' live for two days is both exhilarating and risky," "GH" executive producer Frank Valentini said in a statement. "It's live television and absolutely anything can happen, but that is what's fun about this and we're absolutely up to the challenge."

"GH" is one of only four network soap operas still on the air, along with "Young and the Restless," "Days of Our Lives" and "The Bold and the Beautiful." Of the four, it's been on the air the longest, having premiered on April 1, 1963.

The show currently stars Anthony Geary, Maurice Benard, Steve Burton, Kristen Alderson, Kelly Monaco and Finola Hughes, among many others.
