Who is Chris Matthews, the Seahawks receiver stealing the Super Bowl?

A primer for getting to know the breakout star of the Super Bowl: Seahawks wide receiver Chris Matthews.

From: Long Beach, Calif.

Family: Cousin of late NFL great Reggie White; not related to NBC's Chris Matthews, of "Hardball" fame

College: Los Angeles Harbor College, then Kentucky

Drafted: Wasn't. Matthews was signed by the Browns as a free agent in 2011, but didn't survive training camp.

Early experience: After the Cleveland stint, Matthews traveled north, signing with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers of the CFL. He was the 2012 Most Outstanding Rookie of the CFL, starting all 18 games and scoring seven touchdown on 1,192 receiving yards.

Fairy-tale story: After a turf-toe injury hampered his second year in the CFL, he found himself working at a Foot Locker and as a security guard. That's when the Seahawks called to see if the Cinderella slipper fit — they wanted to know if he'd be available for a tryout.

"I don't get off of work until 9 p.m." he said. "I don't know if I'll make it."

He made the tryout, and then he made the Seahawks. And now he's making sure everyone knows his name.
