Knicks sign Lance Thomas to 10-day contract

The Knicks plan on signing former Thunder forward Lance Thomas to a 10-day contract likely by Saturday, The Post has learned. Thomas cleared waivers Friday.

The 6-foot-8, 225-pound, Brooklyn-born Thomas averaged 5.1 points and 3.4 rebounds in 20.5 minutes in 22 games, making 13 starts for Oklahoma City this season.

Thomas made the Thunder out of training camp and started at the outset because of the bevy of injuries. The northern New Jersey high school star played at Duke but is not a skilled offensive player. But he is known for his defense and being a great locker-room guy and favorite of the Thunder coaching staff, according to scouts.

Knicks coach Derek Fisher is close with the Thunder staff because he played there the past two seasons.

The Knicks obtained Thomas in the three-team trade with Oklahoma City and Cleveland Monday night. The Knicks originally were not going to waive him. Then they changed their minds since he had a non-guaranteed deal, presenting the chance to sign him to a 10-day deal.

The Knicks have just one roster spot left after already signing point guard Langston Galloway earlier this week.
