A water main break caused a massive flood in the West Village Wednesday, spilling into the subway lines around 7 p.m. and flooding the tracks.
The deluge caused subway service of the 1,2 and 3 trains to be temporarily halted between Chambers Street and 34th Street, the MTA said.
"I saw muddy water shooting out like a geyser." one witness said.
"It flooded the whole intersection. People were hopping around the water. It looked like it was about 1,000 gallons a minute."
A doorman at a nearby building said that workers were jackhammering outside and that ConEd workers came to his building to see if they had been flooded.
