Miley Cyrus' father is getting back into the TV business.
Billy Ray Cyrus, 53, who co-starred with daughter Miley in Disney Channel's "Hannah Montana," will headline a new comedy series for CMT — playing a washed-up country star who re-emerges as an Elvis impersonator.
In "Still the King," Cyrus will play Vernon "Burnin' Vernon" Brown, who's exiled from the country music circuit but returns, after 20 years, as the "second-best" Elvis impersonator in Loughlin, Nev. He also pretends to be the new minister of a Nashville church and discovers he's got a long-lost 15-year-old daughter. 'Nuf said.
Cyrus will executive-produce the series, premiering early next year.
The singer (and his mullet) had a huge country music hit with "Achy Breaky Heart" back in 1992.
In 2006, he teamed with his then-unknown daughter, Miley, for "Hannah Montana," which ended its run in 2011.
