Watching the brackets being released on Selection Sunday is one of this country's greatest traditions, an unrivaled event whose lack of game action prevents any chance of being underwhelmed, a day where disappointment is reserved for the teams relegated to the NIT.
And when it's over, the night only gets better, as the brackets begin getting filled out and anticipation grows, knowing even better days are just a few days away.
Always overshadowed, the championship games beforehand are often some of the best of the season. Hopefully, the picks will be, too.
UConn (+3 ½) over Smu: Few handicappers have picked against the Huskies in a championship game and have enough fingers left to type about it. Likely needing to win the conference title game to advance to the Big Dance, Ryan Boatright will carry the Kemba Walker/Shabazz Napier torch and strap the team to his back.
Arkansas (+12) over Kentucky: Even against the Wildcats' incredible defense, the Razorbacks can put up points quick, ranking 12th in the nation. Though Kentucky's biggest game is still weeks away, no game will matter more to Arkansas this season.
Wisconsin (-5) over Michigan State: Winning four straight games by an average of 17 points, the Badgers will lock up a No. 1 seed in the NCAA Tournament and claim their first Big Ten championship in seven years. They also are unlikely to shoot as poor from the perimeter (4-of-14) as they did in a seven-point win over the Spartans two weeks ago.
VCU (+1) over Dayton: The Rams are rolling, having won three games in three days to reach the A-10 title game. While Flyers coach Archie Miller has (rightfully) earned endless accolades as one of the best coaches in the country, Shaka Smart will remind everyone that he was the country's darling first.
