Knicks president Phil Jackson looked particularly edgy in his midcourt seat Tuesday, perhaps knowing his trade that railroaded All-Star center Tyson Chandler would be dissected all over again.
Chandler set the tone for another miserable night by slamming hope an alleyoop dunk on the game's first possession.
The Mavericks hit eight of their first nine shots and got off to a 34-15 lead as Dallas posted a wire-to-wire 107-87 rout at the boo-infested Garden.
Jackson is said to be in better spirits than you would think nowadays, realizing it is not about this season. But this season — now at 5-22 — is turning rotten to the core as his first big trade as president continues to look like a stinker.
The key piece to the deal, Jose Calderon, suffered through a very poor outing as he scored three points, with 1-of-6 shooting, two assists and a smattering of boos. Center Samuel Dalembert, who has lost his starting job to Amar'e Stoudemire, played just six minutes and was scoreless with two rebounds.
Chandler, cheered during player introductions, finished the evening all smiles after an 8-point, 14-rebound showing. It wasn't his 17-point, 25-rebound monster effort from last month's encounter, but he had to be satisfied to see his Mavericks climb to 18-8 while Jackson's Knicks fell to a historically bad 17 games under .500.
Carmelo Antony finished with 26 points (11-of-23 shooting) in a losing cause. He next travels to Chicago on Thursday for the first time since he spurned the Bulls.
Without Anthony, the Knicks played with soul in Dallas last month, losing in overtime. On Tuesday, they competed only in the second quarter. The Knicks got within four points in the second period before Dallas regained control and led by 54-44 at intermission. Anthony and Hardaway Jr. each pumped in 12 points by halftime to keep it respectable.
