IWantMedia site will go dark Monday

Fourteen-year-old IWantMedia.com will go dark on Monday.

Patrick Phillips, the founder of the IWantMedia site, who sold it to Guggenheim/Prometheus Partners for a mid-six-figure deal four years ago, is exiting after clashing with the current management team.

"We will be letting subscribers know on Monday that it will be going dark for awhile," said Jeff Wilbur, president of Adweek.

Phillips said he was offered the chance to oversee Adweek.com and update IWantMedia in his spare time.

Wilbur said "it was a mis-characterization to say [Phillips] was offered Adweek.com."

Nevertheless, the company has been trying to figure out what to do with the media aggregation site.

Guggenheim Digital Media purchased Mediabistro from Alan Meckler for $8 million in August and that may have hastened IWantMedia's demise.

"Right now we are in the process of doing a lot of planning across the brands," said Charlie Rogers, chief content officer of Adweek.

Wilbur declined to say if Adweek was profitable, but said, "We're happy with the way things are going."
