De Niro takes one of NYC’s most expensive rentals

Robert De Niro has moved into one of New York's most expensive rental apartments — an entire floor of a tower at 15 Central Park West for a whopping $125,000 a month.

De Niro and his wife Grace Hightower recently moved into 35AB at the tony residence. The pad is two condo apartments combined into one, occupying a whole floor of the tower, and owned by steel magnate Leroy Schecter.

The 6,000-square-foot unit boasts five bedrooms, seven baths, a library and dining room, plus sweeping views of Central Park, downtown Manhattan and the Hudson River. Schecter had originally put it on the market for sale for a whopping $95 million in 2012.

The De Niros have been homeless since the 2012 blaze in their Upper West Side co-op. The fire at their triplex at 88 Central Park West started in the laundry room and quickly spread, requiring an extensive gut renovation.

A source tells Page Six that after renting in the West Village, De Niro was ready to come back uptown. While his rep did not comment, sources say De Niro will live at 15 CPW until renovations on his place are complete.

Schecter bought the two 35th-floor apartments for a total of $18.9 million in 2008. Prior to the construction work, he rented the two units for a total of $70,000 per month to Yankee Alex Rodriguez and investor Henry Silverman.

After listing the combined apartments for $95 million in 2012, Schecter reduced it to $85 million in April last year, then slashed it to $70 million in November. It's now on the market for $65 million.

De Niro's neighbors in the storied building — said to be New York's most exclusive address and nicknamed the "Limestone Jesus" — include Goldman Sachs' Lloyd Blankfein, hedge funders Dan Loeb and Barry Rosenstein, Denzel Washington, Bob Costas and Sting.

De Niro's rent at 15 CPW is one of the highest for a Manhattan condo or townhouse, adds The Post's Jennifer Gould Keil. But it falls below the highest NYC rent ask, $250,000 a month for each of the two penthouses at the New York Palace.
