Atlantic City hotel says NFL didn’t ask for Ray Rice assault video

The NFL's claim that it requested "any and all information" about Ray Rice's assault on his wife in an Atlantic City casino is about as weak as the Giants offense.

League officials never requested surveillance video from the Revel hotel and casino that clearly show the disgraced running back punching and dragging Janay Palmer Rice during a fight in the elevator, sources said on Tuesday.

The hotel sources told TMZ that if the NFL ever bothered to ask for the footage, they gladly would have turned it over.

Even the star running back's own lawyer had a copy of the video.
The revelation punched a giant hole in Commissioner Roger Goodell's stance that the league did everything possible to investigate the horrifying attack on Valentine's Day weekend.

"We requested from law enforcement any and all information about the incident, including the video from inside the elevator," the league said in a statement. "That video was not made available to us."

Goodell suspended Rice from the league indefinitely after the footage was made public by TMZ — a far cry from the paltry two-game suspension and $500,000 fine the NFL gave him in July.

Questions have now emerged about how much the league tried to find out about the assault before taking action against the former Baltimore Raven.

"They [the NFL] are just trying to save themselves on this one," Wally Williams, a former Ravens offensive lineman, told CNN. "I think they all had an opportunity to see this video."

Janay Rice posted this message to Instagram on Tuesday before taking her account private.

League officials had said they gave Rice the light punishment in part because prosecutors had dropped a felony assault charge against Rice in favor of court-supervised counseling.

A month later, the NFL announced a stronger domestic-violence policy that included a six-game suspension.

While the league tried to fall on Goodell's fumble, the exiled running back broke his silence.

In a phone conversation with ESPN's Josina Anderson, Rice said he and his wife are leaning on each other.

"I have to be strong for my wife," he said. "She is so strong. We are in good spirits. We have a lot of people praying for us and we'll continue to support each other. I have to be there for [Janay] and my family right now and work through this."

Rice, according to ESPN, handed the phone to his wife, who echoed his sentiments.

"I love my husband," Janay said. "I support him. I want people to respect our privacy in this family matter."

The football player also sent a text to CNN.

"I'm just holding strong for my wife and kid," Rice said. "That's all I can do right now."

The muscular former Rutgers University star was seen Tuesday signing for a pink array of flowers at the door of the couple's Reisterstown, Md., home wearing a sleeveless shirt that showed off his tattooed arms.

The couple earlier in the day came out together from the house, as more details emerged from the night at Revel.

New footage of the brutal attack — with audio — shows the football player exchanging obscenities with his then-girlfriend before she spat in his face, the Associated Press reported.

She then gets decked by the fierce, left-handed blow.

The footage also shows Rice interacting with hotel staff as he dragged Janay off the elevator.

One of the workers could be heard saying: "She's drunk, right?" And then, "No cops."

Rice didn't appear to respond.

Meanwhile, Rice's stock continued to fall — with his jersey pulled from NFL stores and the Ravens offering refunds at their shops.

In New Jersey, Rutgers said it is removing his pictures from the school's stadium, and the Madden video game is removing him from its roster.
