Sci-fi rom-com ‘The One I Love’ is a one-twist flick

Like many movies that premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, "The One I Love" has plenty of story — for a 30-minute TV episode, in this case of "The Twilight Zone."

Spoiler alert, I guess, but the sole twist of this sci-fi rom-com arrives in the first reel, so it isn't that much of a giveaway, even if the movie goes to great pains to convince you that it's got a killer twist coming up.

Elisabeth Moss and Mark Duplass (a writer-producer who lacks the screen presence to anchor this or any other film) play a frustrated married pair who go to a weekend retreat for a session of couples therapy that turns out to be an introduction to their doppelgangers. That's right: They have twins who are shinier, improved, more caring versions of themselves, so each starts to become fond of the other one's imitator. Let this be a lesson that each of us could be a better person to our partners.

Ha, ha, and … that's pretty much the idea, extended out to grueling length. "The One I Love" has its cute moments, but they add up to a sketch, not a film.
