Nets guard Markel Brown, the 44th overall pick in the NBA draft, suffered a fractured right hand while working out at a basketball camp in Las Vegas Monday, the team announced. Brown will not do any basketball activity for four to six weeks.
A teammate of the Celtics' Marcus Smart at Oklahoma State, where he averaged 17.2 points per game as a senior, Brown recently signed a two-year minimum deal with the Nets, who bought the pick used to draft him for $1.1 million from Minnesota.
Brown averaged 10.1 points for the Nets summer league entry in Orlando. The Nets figure he will return around the start of training camp, Sept. 26.
