Donald Sterling's full disdain for Magic Johnson was revealed last night, when the disgraced LA Clippers owner landed a low blow on the NBA legend by bringing up his HIV infection and blasting him as a sexually promiscuous bad role model.

"What kind of a guy goes to every city, has sex with every girl, then he catches HIV?" Sterling said of retired basketball star, who was diagnosed with the illness in 1991. "Is that someone we want to respect and tell our kids about?"

Sterling made the stunning comment during an interview Sunday with CNN's Anderson Cooper. Though some of his criticism of Johnson was leaked Sunday, the full fury if his denigrating remarks was reveled when the segment was aired Monday.

"I think he should be ashamed of himself," Sterling said. "I think he should go into the background. But what does he do for the black people? He doesn't do anything."

Johnson, who became immersed in the NBA owner's racial scandal when Sterling criticized his gal pal V. Stiviano for posting a photo online of her posing with the former Lakers star.

Sterling was taped telling Stiviano not to bring Johnson or other "black people" to Clippers games.

NBA commissioner Adam Silver denounced Silver's remarks.

"While Magic Johnson doesn't need me to, I feel compelled on behalf of the NBA family to apologize to him that he continues to be dragged into this situation and be degraded by such a malicious and personal attack," Silver's said in a statement Monday night.

Sterling also claimed that Johnson called him and told him to remain silent about the controversy until they planned a course of action together.

"He just said 'Wait, be patient, I'll help you, we'll work it out,'" Sterling said.

Despite his vitriol, Sterling tried to make nice in the interview by saying he had made "a terrible mistake'' and was "sorry'' for making his racist comments.

Donald Sterling has said he would fight to retain ownership — although he may have trouble finding legal representation.

At least eight top California law firms have refused to work with him, it was reported Monday.

Meanwhile, Sterling's estranged wife Shelly said the NBA's resistance to her keeping the team shows there's a double-standard when it comes to women being involved with the NBA.

"She wants to remain a passive owner," her lawyer, Pierce O'Donnell, told CNN.
