The movie that helped Spike Lee bridge the gap from neophyte director to trailblazer is coming to Showtime. Back in 1986 the director delighted audiences with "She's Gotta Have It," a low-budget film about a young woman, Nola Darling (played by Tracy Camilla Johns), who treated her three ardent boyfriends as sex objects.

Filmed in 12 days, the movie was set in Brooklyn, Lee's former home (he now lives on the Upper East Side).
"She's Gotta Have It" is expected to debut as a half-hour comedy series, alongside such acclaimed shows as "Nurse Jackie," "House of Lies," and "Shameless."
An update of the film will give Showtime a minority romantic comedy and add some welcome contrast to its lineup of dark comedies and psychological thrillers.
