Hawks end Nets’ home win streak, putting Knicks on the brink

If the Knicks were hoping for some help from the Nets, they didn't get it.

While the Knicks were winning in Toronto to keep their faint playoff hopes alive, the Nets lost to the eighth-place Hawks at Barclays Center 93-88, ending their 15-game home winning streak and bringing their crosstown rivals to the brink of elimination.

The loss ensured the Nets (43-36) will open the playoffs on the road, as it gave the division title to the Raptors and ensured the Bulls will finish no lower than fourth in the Eastern Conference. The Nets still need a combination of two wins and Wizards losses to ensure they finish in fifth, and one win or one Bobcats loss to finish no lower than sixth.

Mason Plumlee led the Nets with 17 points off the bench, while Paul Pierce — who hit a 3-pointer in the second quarter to surpass 25,000 points in his career, becoming just the 18th player to do so — finished with 13.

Paul Millsap led the Hawks (36-43) with 27 points, who now need just one win or Knicks loss over their remaining three games to get into the playoffs.
