Bloomberg LP settles long-standing overtime pay lawsuit

Written By Unknown on Rabu, 19 Maret 2014 | 10.46

It has been a long time coming, but the lawsuit by contract representatives claiming that they were denied overtime pay by Bloomberg LP has finally been resolved.

About 428 employees will be splitting $5.4 million — or a little more than $12,600 apiece, on average.

Although the settlement was reached last September, workers were still filing for inclusion as plaintiffs in the class-action lawsuit as recently as January.

The case, adjudicated in Manhattan federal court, was finally closed on March 11.

At that time, a settlement agreement was acknowledged — but no specifics were spelled out.

The employees had claimed that they were asked to work over 40 hours a week and more than 10 hours a day without getting paid overtime.

The company never disputed that claim — but had insisted they were exempt employees not entitled to OT.

Robert Ottinger, the lawyer who filed the class-action case on behalf of plaintiff Tania Montes de Oca back in January 2013, said he could not comment on the case.

Thomas Golden, the lawyer for Bloomberg LP at Wilkie, Farr & Gallagher, also declined to comment.

But it appears those OT checks should finally be on their way.
