PITTSBURGH — The Rangers finally have a healthy squad, a squad they felt confident in heading into this season. But it's a squad that just can't seem to overcome the Penguins.
Despite the return of captain Ryan Callahan for the Rangers, Sidney Crosby scored and added two assists as the Penguins ripped the Blueshirts, 5-2, on Friday night. It was Pittsburgh's 10th win in the past 12 meetings with the Rangers.
Callahan, Rick Nash, Carl Hagelin and Marc Staal were all on the ice, but Penguins goalie Marc-Andre Fleury was nearly impenetrable, and Henrik Lundqvist simply was not good enough. Fleury made 33 saves for Pittsburgh to Lundqvist's 23.
Mats Zuccarello scored a pair of third-period goals for the Blueshirts, but the Rangers still could not figure out how to beat the Metropolitan Division-leading Penguins.
Crosby's goal was his 23rd of the season, and Jussi Jokinen ended a lengthy scoring drought with two goals. Chris Kunitz also scored twice for the Penguins.
