Let’s be Frank: Nets ripped by Nuggets

Lawrence Frank might not have been on the bench Tuesday night, but the Nets sure didn't look any different.

After Jason Kidd announced his former head coach and, until Tuesday, one of his assistants, had been reassigned and would no longer be around the team on daily basis, the Nets went out and got bludgeoned 111-87 by the Nuggets at Barclays Center.

The Nets enter Thursday's showdown between the clubs having lost 11 of their last 14 games, while the Knicks enter the game having lost nine straight.

If the Nets (5-13) play anything like they did Tuesday night, they will have trouble getting a leg up on their crosstown rivals. After staying competitive with the much younger and more athletic Nuggets (11-6) and trailing 58-50 at the half, Denver became the latest team this season to destroy the Nets in the third quarter.

The Nuggets, winners of seven straight, outscored the Nets 31-15 in the third — including closing the quarter with a 19-5 run — to take a 89-65 and send boos cascading down from the hometown fans.

Joe Johnson led the Nets with 22 points, and Brook Lopez added 12, though just two of those points came after the first quarter.

Denver had six players finish in double figures, led by former Knick Timofey Mozgov, who had 17 points, 20 rebounds and two blocked shots.
