‘Lucy’ gets colorized

If they can colorize war footage (a la "World War II in Color"), why not freshen up a TV sitcom?

CBS will air two colorized episodes of its classic comedy "I Love Lucy" Dec. 20 — the memorable "Lucy's Italian Movie" (with Lucy furiously stomping grapes in an Italian winery) and an "I Love Lucy" Christmas special, both of which originally aired in 1956 (in black-and-white).

It's not the first time the colorized Christmas special has aired; it was first broadcast back in 1990. This time, though, CBS will retain the original black-and-white, but only for the special's flashback scenes.

"I Love Lucy," one of TV's first breakout hits, aired on CBS from 1951-57 with stars Lucille Ball, Desi Arnaz, Vivian Vance and William Frawley.

It then morphed into the less popular "Lucy-Desi Comedy Hour" (all the original stars returned), which ran on CBS until 1960.
