The Issue: The acquittal of Lamont Pride on a first-degree murder charge, and his driver on all charges.
***
I am outraged, as are most people, at the juries in the trials for the murder of Detective Peter Figoski ("Jury Clears Driver of Thugs in Slaying of NYPD Detective Peter Figoski," Feb. 14).
From much of the sentiment you read from Brooklyn residents and their elected officials, they seem to be anti-police.
This is evident in their objections to stop-and-frisk and other racial-profiling complaints.
Bleeding-heart citizens seem to have more allegiance to the seedy criminal types than to the dedicated men and women who protect them from scum like Lamont Pride.

It was definitely a sad day for the Figoski family, the police department and the decent people of Brooklyn.

If you commit a murder in the Bronx or Brooklyn, you don't need to hire a smart or expensive lawyer.
Just take it to a jury and save a lot of money.

The jurors who threw dirt in the face of Figoski's family only proved why Brooklyn has such wonderful and safe neighborhoods like East New York, Bushwick and Bed-Stuy.
A hero officer was shot in the head by a man who was committing a felony with a gun, and the jurors feel this man, who has many convictions in his past, could be back on the streets, free to kill again, in 25 years.
This should've been on the minds of these jurors, because criminals don't care whom they make victims.
Next time, it may be someone they know, and they would be just as responsible as the judge who allowed Pride to leave jail, even though he had a warrant in North Carolina.
Good luck to the Figoski family. Rest assured that many of us are extremely upset with the action of these jurors.
God bless those who try to keep us safe.

He shot a uniformed cop in the head while committing a burglary? He didn't mean to intentionally kill him.
He drove the perps to the scene in the getaway car? He is not guilty of anything.
So say Brooklyn jurors to Brooklyn cops.
Now suck it up, take your post tonight and risk your life for these ingrates whom you swore to protect.
Rest in peace, Det. Figoski, if you can.

I think someone needs to remind the residents of Brooklyn who just served on the juries that saw fit to show leniency to two cop killers, and any future jurors, that the only reason they and their families can walk the streets is because of cops.
While most were probably home sleeping on the night Figoski was murdered, he was out doing the job he chose to take — protecting them and their families.
Figoski's family expected him to come home that morning safe and sound.
Unfortunately, criminals prevented that, because, in the course of committing a robbery that they planned in advance, they shot and killed him.
Yet, for reasons I will never understand and I doubt anyone could explain, the juries chose to believe this man killed Figoski by accident, and that the getaway driver had no responsibility whatsoever in the murder.

New York City cops should finally realize that their worst enemy is not the cop killers like Pride, but the cop-hating jurors who will not convict cop killers on the highest murder charge.
How this jury bought into Pride's story is beyond comprehension.

To all the jurors in the Pride trial: You're a disgrace.
You should hang your heads in shame.
The next time you're in trouble and need a cop's help, I hope he smiles, flips you the bird and walks away.
