Johnson’s second buzzer-beater lifts Nets to OT win

Once again, Joe Johnson saved the Nets.

Johnson's turnaround, fadeaway 3-pointer with 1.3 seconds remaining in regulation gave the Nets new life, and his jumper as time expired in overtime allowed them to escape from Barclays Center with a wild 113-111 victory over the Bucks Tuesday night in front of 17,334 in Brooklyn.

After the Bucks used their final foul to give with 5.2 seconds left in overtime, Johnson, who scored 24 points, took the ball at the top of the key against Milwaukee's top defender, Luc Mbah a Moute. But Johnson backed him down below the foul line, got a little bit of space and rose up to drain the game-winning basket as time expired, sending the home crowd into a frenzy and somehow giving the Nets a win.

But it was only thanks to Johnson's equally dramatic shot at the end of regulation that he had a chance to win the game in the extra session. After Deron Williams (19 points, nine assists) had been called for an offensive foul for catching Monta Ellis with an elbow with less than 10 seconds remaining in the fourth and the Nets trailing 103-102, Bucks point guard Brandon Jennings — who finished a sensational night with 34 points, six rebounds and seven assists — hit a pair of free throws with 6.7 seconds remaining to give Milwaukee a 105-102 lead.

That set the stage for Johnson to catch a pass from Williams coming up from the baseline off a screen by Andray Blatche, turnaround and in one motion let fly a 3-pointer that dropped through the net with 1.3 seconds left in regulation to send the game to overtime.

From there, the Nets managed just six points in overtime — all coming on a pair of Keith Bogans 3-pointers — before Johnson's game-winner.

The Nets, who won their third straight, got off to a terrific start, taking a 61-51 lead at halftime after getting 31 points in the first quarter and 30 in the second. Brook Lopez (19 points, nine rebounds), fresh off making his first All-Star appearance Sunday, led the way at the half with 13 points, and Williams — fresh off of plasma rich platelet treatment on both ankles that caused him to sit the final two games before the break — had 12 points, five assists and three rebounds at the half.

But after leading by as many as 15 late in the second quarter, the Bucks stormed back into the lead in the third, because of some terrific play from Jennings. Continuing a season-long tradition of quick guards giving the Nets trouble, Jennings nearly outscored the Nets by himself in the third quarter, finishing with 16 points on 6-for-10 shooting to lead the Bucks to a 30-19 advantage in the quarter and sending them into the fourth clinging to an 81-80 lead.
