L .A. Reid wants a Jersey rocker to fill his judging seat on "X Factor."

"I have nothing to do with it, but my choice would be Jon Bon Jovi," he told Access Hollywood. "That's who I would pick."

Reid, 56, is quitting the Fox singing competition after next week's finale to return to his day job as chairman and CEO of Epic Records.

"I have a company to run that I've kind of neglected," he said. Leaving "saddens me a little bit — but only a little bit."

During his tenure in the music industry, Reid has helped launch the careers of Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey and Rihanna.

But he has had several high-profile blunders in his role as a talent-show judge, including comparing the show's California boy band Emblem 3 to The Beatles.

Reid's shocking announcement now raises doubts about the future of "X Factor" judges Britney Spears and Demi Lovato.

"It is that time of year where you are always going to get asked that kind of question," Simon Cowell told The Post last week. "And I am not going to answer it."

Earlier in the season, Spears told reporters, "Yes, I definitely will" be back for Season 3 in 2013. But now the pop princess appears to have changed her tune.

"Maybe. We'll see," she told The Post last week.

A shakeup at the judges table could give Cowell a much needed opportunity to retrench the show.

Viewership has dropped almost 25 percent since host Steve Jones and judges Paula Abdul and Nicole Scherzinger were shown the door at the conclusion of Season 1.

As recently as September, Reid told Billboard magazine "I'm actually very hopeful that 'X-Factor' keeps the same panel, going forward. I think that we actually suffer a little but for not having that consistency in our panel."

Reid's departure is "a huge loss for the show," says Season 2 finalist Beatrice Miller of Mapewood, NJ. "But I think Jon Bon Jovi would be a perfect [mentor]."
