Consumers are visiting hope for the holidays

Millions of American consumers are economically limping into the holidays this year, according to a consumer spending report.

The report makes this conclusion based on November's sentiment for the Discover US Spending Monitor, which was glum.

The monthly benchmark index declined in November by 2.7 percent, to 95.4 percent. This marks that the fifth month out of the last six that the consumer confidence index, which measures how consumers view their finances and the economy, has headed down.

But there is good news; Discover officials said it could be a good holiday season. "Thirty-nine percent of consumers are gearing up for the holidays and have plans to increase their spending in December," according to the survey.
