A pair of wannabe record producers shook down their business partner and forced him to buy them iPads and Apple laptops so they wouldn't do "unspeakable things to his girlfriend," police sources said.
The ill-fated business partnership ended with John Fontein, 27, shelling out $3,800 at a Midtown Apple Store after Andres Lozano and Ryan Mixon threatened to kill his family and rape his girlfriend, the sources said.
Lozano was working as a talent scout for Fontein, and had brought on Mixon as his partner.
Mixon and Lozano met up Fontein on Thursday evening at Mediterranean restaurant Pere SoHo and demanded $50,000, which they believed they were owed, sources said
"It was like a business deal gone bad," a police source said.
They also threatened to kill his family with guns and knives -- though neither flashed a weapon, sources said.
The pair demanded $1,000 as a down payment, but Fontein couldn't get the cash out of an ATM -- so they dragged him uptown to the Apple Store, where he charged a slew of mini iPads and laptops to his credit card before they let him go.
The next day, Fontein was a the First Precinct reporting the crime when his partners sent him threatening text messages and set up a "drop time," police sources said.
They made plans to meet up at the same restaurant, where cops collared them.
They were both charged with kidnapping, robbery, and grand larceny.
